History
The city of Alba Iulia is the capital of the Alba county, being located on the left shore of the Mures river. The city of Alba Iulia developed itself on the settlement of the Dacian site Apoulon, conquered by the Romans and re-named Apulum. The touristic and/or exploration potential of the area is expressed through its historical monuments, culminating with the citadel built by Carol VI between 1716 and 1735, namely the White Citadel Carolina. The Vauban-type citadel with seven star-shaped bastions, is the most impressive of this type in the South-East of Europe, especially owing to its triumphal gates that allowed access into the Citadel.
Purpose
The completion in the Alba Iulia citadel of a complex travel itinerary which contains different architectural, monumental landscape and urban elements, in order to contribute to the development of the cultural tourism in the area and the reintegration of the Citadel into the life of the community.
