History
Historical documents present Sulina beginning with the Byzantine period, owing its first mention to Constantine Pophyrogenetul, who, in his work “De Administrando Imperii”, refers to the town as Solina. Following this, one comes across Sulina in various navigation guides and Italian maps from the 14th and 15th centuries. The majority of stories about life in Sulina appeared in the 18th century, when the Turks
began choosing the waterway to Constantinopole, passing by the Sulina backwater (the only navigable one at the time).
